Role of the Inflammatory Response in Pathogenesis of Asthma

Filed under: Health and Fitness — Tags: — MOIN @ 1:04 pm

Asthma is defined as a chronic inflammatory disorder of the airways in which several different cells and cellular components take part. Among these are T and B lymphocytes, mast cells, IgE antibodies, and eosinophils. The mechanism of asthma is very complex. In order for asthma to occur, a previous sensitization with a specific allergen must happen. Once that happens, the immune system will form unique antibodies to that allergen. Subsequent exposure to the same allergen will cause an allergic reaction to form and an asthma attack to happen. There can be multiple allergens that cause the same allergic response. An allergic reaction is known to produce only Immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies via B lymphocytes. IgE antibodies then attach to mast cells so that the next time an allergen is encountered, the allergen will bind to the preformed IgE.

The binding of allergen to the already complexed IgE molecules causes mast cells to burst releasing: histamine, leukotrienes, and other mediators that cause airway inflammation and constriction of bronchiolar smooth muscle. In addition, activation by IgE mediated mast cells causes a recruitment of white blood cells from the bloodstream to the airway. The activated white blood cells direct the release of inflammatory mediators from eosinophils, lymphocytes, and activated mast cells. The whole reaction is a cycle that keeps activating each other to keep the allergic response going. How to Find the Most Suitable Asthma Treatment

Filed under: Health and Fitness — Tags: — MOIN @ 1:03 pm

There are three basic components to an effective asthma treatment which are: monitoring of symptoms, preventing triggers, and medication treatment. Evaluating each component will produce a better understanding of the suitable treatment given that will help control and prevent symptoms.

Monitoring of Symptoms

This is the most basic step towards an effective asthma treatment or being in control of your asthma condition. Create an asthma action plan with your doctor, which will enable you to outline the important steps you need to take in an effort to control the symptoms. It will also indicate what actions are to be done in cases of asthma attack and manifestation of other symptoms. (more…)

Help For Asthma Sufferers

Filed under: Health and Fitness — Tags: — MOIN @ 1:01 pm

Three hundred million people around the world suffer from asthma. Of this group more than twenty-three million live in America. The number has increased in the last twenty years. This is thought to be due to an increase in some of the environmental factors that can aggravate asthma such as pollutants and obesity.

Asthma is an inflammation of the bronchial tubes or airways of the lungs that causes them to narrow and tighten. This results in breathing problems. Some symptoms include wheezing and shortness of breath, a feeling of tightness or actual pain in the chest, coughing, a shortness of breath when exercising and waking up at night due to wheezing and coughing. This is a serious condition that requires a doctor’s care. It varies from mild to severe depending upon the frequency and seriousness of attacks. While asthma does not respond well to alternative therapies there are some strategies that can help avoid triggers. (more…)

Natural Asthma Cure – Safe Way

Filed under: Health and Fitness — Tags: — MOIN @ 2:00 am

Asthma is a disorder in which the person has problems breathing because of the chronic swelling and soreness of the lungs which results in the blockage and narrowing of the airways i.e. the bronchi.

When we talk of the medical treatment of asthma we mainly talk about the prevention and the emergency treatments. There are many such available in the medical field and most of them depend on steroids which in the long run harm the system more than they help.

However it is much safer to opt for natural and parallel treatments, where lots of treatments are in terms of the asthma cure – a natural cure to asthma. (more…)

Bowen Technique For Asthma

Filed under: Health and Fitness — Tags: — MOIN @ 1:59 am

The Bowen Technique is a gentle, light-touch therapy developed by Tom Bowen in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Originally intended to help people suffering from muscular-skeletal problems, it has been shown to be very successful with many other conditions as well.

One of the most exciting areas emerging with Bowen Therapy is how extremely effective it is in treating asthma, particularly childhood asthma. The treatment for asthma in young children and babies is simple and consists of a few gentle ‘moves’ on the child’s back and abdomen. (more…)

What is an Aerosol Machine?

Filed under: Health and Fitness — Tags: — MOIN @ 1:57 am

The prevalence of the use of aerosol machines has increased significantly in the last decade. This is due, at least in part, to the rising occurrence of lung diseases and disorders, particularly asthma, and specifically, childhood asthma. In fact, it is estimated that one in four urban children are affected by asthma.

Asthma is defined as chronic inflammation of the lungs. It affects the bronchi (airways) and causes them to become narrowed. This narrowing is reversible with medication. In many cases of childhood asthma a sufferer simply outgrows the condition.

It is not known exactly what causes asthma, though exposure to secondhand smoke and other contaminants/pollutants is thought to be one major cause. It’s also unknown why some children outgrow the conditions while others suffer it for a lifetime. It is also possible to develop asthma at any point in life, not just in childhood. Asthma and Allergies – Are You Choking on Air Fresheners From Public Restrooms?

Filed under: Health and Fitness — Tags: , — MOIN @ 1:56 am

A commercial came on Television last night about how you can spray your child’s room to make it smell clean. I was appalled by the meaning of this commercial. It basically is insulting your intelligence by telling you and your children that you can clean a room by using their air freshener. I guess these companies really think that we will blindly follow their ridiculous guidance. People with Asthma and Allergies would have serious problems with their health if they followed the Air Fresheners Companies advice. A friend of mine went into a woman’s bathroom recently and had to leave the store because one of these fragrance products made her sick in the restroom. Guess that company lost her business forever because of lack of cleanliness in their store.

People who have sensitivities to these products are the same people who when they go into a public restroom, they start to gag at the masking scents that companies are using instead of cleaning their bathrooms. This is a real shame that major companies use these products instead of cleaning their bathrooms. I was in a Major Office Supply Company today and could not believe how dirty their public bathroom was. They also had one of those units spraying fragrance into the air with water all over the floor. Guess they are not “Taking Care of Business” anymore. (more…)
